Board Member Position Descriptions
General Information:
The ARA Board of Directors is a “working” Board. This means that Board members are expected to attend all monthly meetings (unless sick, out of town, or work or personal emergency), are expected to assist with the annual training conference, and are expected to volunteer to serve on at least one committee.
President
Constitutional Description: According to the ARA Constitution, the President shall preside over the meetings of the membership and the Board. The President shall also be an ex-officio member of all committees.
Duties Description: In addition to the current description in the Constitution, the President shall:
1. Attend the NRA annual training Conference (or appoint designee)
2. Attend the NRA annual Government Affairs Conference-GA Conference (or appoint designee)
3. Monitor the ARA budget and assist the Treasurer with preparation of the annual ARA budget
4. File the NRA yearly report
5. Appoint Committee Chairs for the Annual ARA training conference
6. Preside over the ARA annual training conference
7. Other duties as needed to ensure smooth operation of ARA
8. Commit to an average 10-12 hours per week to ARA business
President-Elect
Constitutional Description: According to the ARA Constitution, the President-Elect shall assume all duties of the President in his/her absence, shall coordinate the committee activity at the discretion of the President, serve as the Publicity Chairperson of ARA, and shall serve as Governmental Affairs Officer of ARA.
Duties Description: In addition to the current description in the Constitution, the President-Elect shall:
1. Coordinate Legislative visits for the ARA delegation to the GA Conference.
2. Attend the GA Conference.
3. Serve as Legislative Chair for ARA..
4. In the absence or request of the President, preside over the ARA annual training conference.
5. Publish the ARA newsletter twice per year.
6. Assist the ARA Program Chair with the annual training conference.
7. Commit to an average of 5-10 hours per week to ARA business
8. Other duties as requested by President
Note: In order to run for President-Elect, the member must have served at least one year on the ARA Board OR another not for profit entity.
Vice-President
Constitutional Description: According to the ARA Constitution, the Vice-President shall serve as Membership Chairperson and shall assume all duties of the President and/or President Elect in their absence.
Duties Description: In addition to the current description in the Constitution, the Vice President shall:
1. Coordinate membership renewals with ARA members and NRA
2. Serve as membership liaison with ARA members
3. Serve as co-chair for Registration Committee for the ARA annual training conference.
4. Other duties as requested by President
Secretary
Constitutional Description: According to the ARA Constitution, the Secretary shall keep all minutes of the meetings of ARA. The secretary shall prepare such reports as may be required by the Board and shall act as a custodian for all records, deeds, and papers of ARA. The secretary shall maintain accurate accounts of all business of ARA, shall issue notice of all Directors’ and members’ meetings, and shall be custodian of the Corporate Seal.
Duties Description: In addition to the current description in the Constitution, the Secretary shall:
1. Receive and review all monthly bank statements??
2. Submit meeting minutes to the President within 30 days of all meetings
3. Other duties as requested by President
Treasurer
Constitutional Description: According to the ARA Constitution, the Treasurer shall have custody of all funds and securities of ARA. The Treasurer shall also prepare such reports as may be required by the Board and shall act as custodian of all financial records and papers of ARA. The Treasure shall maintain accurate accounts of the business of ARA and shall prepare such reports as required by the Board, including a line item budget, and shall act as custodian of all financial records and papers of ARA.
Duties Description: In addition to the current description in the Constitution, the Treasurer shall:
1. Prepare a yearly budget and present to the Board of Directors for approval
2. Prepare monthly budget reports and present to the Board of Directors for approval
3. Work closely with the Auditor in preparation of audits
4. Work closely with the ARA Broker to manage ARA funds
5. At the annual meeting, report to the membership regarding ARA finances
6. Pay all bills of the Association with ARA funds
7. Coordinate travel for all Board members, including payment and reimbursement.
8. Other duties as requested by the President
Immediate Past President
Constitutional Description: According to the ARA Constitution, the Past President shall remain a member of the Board for a term of one (1) year, and shall serve as Chairperson of the Nomination and Election Committee of RA.
Duties Description: In addition to the current description in the Constitution, the Past President shall:
1. Assist the ARA Program Chair with the ARA Annual Training Conference.
2. Attend the GA Summit
3. Other duties as requested by the President
Board Members at Large
Constitutional Description: According to the ARA Constitution, there shall be 3 board members at large, and each will serve a three year term.
Duties Description: In addition to the current description in the Constitution, the Board Members at Large shall:
1. Attend monthly board meetings
2. Serve on at least one committee
3. Perform other duties as requested by the President
Presidents of Divisions (AARTS, ARCEA, AAMRC, AARL)
Constitutional Description: According to the ARA Constitution, “a duly elected President of that affiliated divisions shall represent each divisional affiliate of NRA with an approved State Constitution and Bylaws of the Board”.
Duties Description:
1. Attend monthly board meetings
2. Report on Division Activities to the ARA Board of Directors
3. Assist with ARA Annual Conference Planning
